DataShield HQ stores all personal data in regionally isolated databases. When you sign up, you choose the data region for your organisation. This ensures your data never leaves your selected geographic area, helping you meet GDPR and local data sovereignty requirements.
Available data regions
| Region | Location | Recommended for |
|---|---|---|
| UK | United Kingdom | UK-based organisations subject to UK GDPR |
| EU (West) | Ireland (Azure West Europe) | EU-based organisations subject to EU GDPR |
| EU (Central) | Germany (Azure Germany West Central) | Organisations requiring German data residency |
| US (East) | Virginia, USA | US-based organisations or those serving US customers |
How data region isolation works
- Each tenant (organisation) is provisioned with a dedicated database in their chosen region.
- No personal data is shared between tenant databases — your data is completely isolated from other DataShield HQ customers.
- All databases are encrypted at rest and in transit.
- Backups are stored in the same region as your primary database.
Choosing your data region
Your data region is selected during the sign-up process and cannot be changed after your account is created. If you need to change region, please contact support@datashieldhq.com — this requires a full data migration and a new account.
Which region is my organisation using?
- Log in to your DataShield HQ workspace.
- Click your organisation name or avatar in the top-right corner.
- Select Organisation Settings.
- Your current data region is displayed under Data Storage.
GDPR compliance and data residency
All DataShield HQ data regions are operated on infrastructure that meets GDPR requirements for data processing within the European Economic Area (EEA) or under an approved adequacy decision. For specific compliance queries, contact support@datashieldhq.com.
